Wizcase purports to be a comparison site that is on the side of the consumer and will help you choose the best VPN for your needs. But who are Wizcase and on what basis should you trust them?
This is what they say about themselves:
Who is WIZCASE? Why should I trust you?
"Wizcase is the international favorite source for security news and real VPN reviews and tutorials. Our security research team features expert white hat hackers who find some of the biggest data leaks – and report them to the companies and the public for a better, more secure digital life for all.”
If you look closely at this, they do not give you any information about who they are, who owns them, their history or where they are based. They ask you to trust them, why? According to them we should trust them because they tell us they are good guys and that should be sufficient.
Is WIZCASE a legit service?
We have tried to research Wizcase. You cannot contact them, please try for yourself info@wizcase.com they won’t answer. Where are they? They say on their site “Wizcase Address: Like you, we value our privacy and prefer to use email.” Who are they? We cannot find anywhere a legal entity. Their domain name doesn’t help, as all reference to who they are is removed https://www.whois.com/whois/wizcase.com .
So, we the consumer are expected to take the advice of an entity with no credentials, no reputation, no independent validation and who is unwilling to even let you know who they are. In any other buying decision would you buy based on this? It is a bit like buying something from a “man at the door”.
WIZCASE is an affiliate not a review site
If we dig a little deeper, they have obtained reviews (none are actually written by them they simply send a questionnaire which providers unwittingly completed) from about 300 providers and have ranked them from 1-300. Turns out they recommend only the providers who pay them the most. WizCase is in fact an affiliate site NOT a genuine comparison site.
Wizcase is paid by the ranked VPN sites 80$-120$ CPA (or cost-per-action, also known as pay-per-performance (PPM). When a media company charges an advertiser using a CPA model, the advertiser only pays out if a user clicks and does a specific action - usually purchase).
They have no interest in you the consumer or in matching the right provider for you. Their “Top10” ranking hasn’t changed in several years. ExpressVPN features heavily as they pay a small fortune to Wizcase for successful conversions. NordVPN is currently number 1 presumably because they increased the payout. If you go to many of the reviews you will see that Surfshark is recommended. We think that there is more to this than simply an affiliate relationship. Wizecase and Surfshark may be the same business.
Wizcase automatically updates the dates on all reviews to make to believe they are recent. They are not. Many of the reviews were provided by the provider themselves several years ago and have not be updated since. VPN providers outside the top 10 are only there to pad out the site and give the site some credibility.
Why Wizcase would be illegal in most countries?
- In most countries, comparison sites are subject to oversight by consumer watch dogs to ensure a level playing field. Wizcase are not subject to any oversight and are accountable to no one. They simply present a biased opinion, to drive sales for the most attractive affiliate partner they work with. That’s why we are here to try to bring some balance to this deeply unsatisfactory situation.
- Most service industries work with platforms that allow independent reviews with Feefo, Trust Pilot and others. These are based on reviews from real people and we urge consumers to looks at this as opposed to the so called comparison sites. You won’t see any feedback about Wizcase, they don’t allow it.
Do not trust WIZCASE fake reviews. Don't get scammed!
People buy a VPN for different reasons and many of the VPN providers meet the need of a niche such as watching TV abroad or bit torrenting safely or getting around blocks imposed by governments. The best provider can’t always be Express or NordVPN. This does not help you the consumer find the service that is right for you.
